Progress in the Sundered Realms – August 2026

Writing Updates and Goals

Well, July came and went before I could blink, and August is well on its way to continuing that trend. So I should share a quick update before the month completely disappears on me!

Progress & Current Project

  • “Chains of Consequence” — The first installment in Mona’s story (currently planned for a duology) is DONE. It is probably the worst first draft I’ve written in a while … inconsistent characterization, abandoned plot arcs, scenes that I skipped for later … revising this draft is going to be a beast! And yet, I’m excited about it. For being a quiet girl, Mona is very, very contrary, and I’ve argued and cajoled and worked with her until I think — finally — I’ve got the heart of her story right. AND I have the coolest tagline for her books ever: “What happens when a girl desperate to escape to her family and friends runs afoul of a god-king’s quest to regain his divinity?” Isn’t that cool? Does it give you chills? (It gives me chills!)
  • “Bonds of Devotion” — With “Chains of Consequence” at least drafted, now I get to dive into the good part! Right now, I’m all of 1,700 words in. But they’re good words.

Goals

  • “Bonds of Devotion” — I want to get this one to at least the halfway mark, maybe even 75%.
  • “Singing Sands” — I’m going to get this one formatted and ready for wider distribution later this month, so if you like dark fantasy stories about how the way we love people defines the humans we are … you’ll want to check this one out. It is (I think, but I’m probably biased) beautiful in a way that breaks you.
  • Duology Infrastructure — There’s still plenty of behind-the-scenes work to do — website pages, organization, and all those glamorous indie-author tasks — but I’m excited that Mona’s story is finally becoming real. If you’re interested in following along (or even joining my future ARC team), please let me know! I have a super easy form you can fill out here, or you can email me at sarahzcreates @ gmail.com).
