Is there anything better than forgetting you pre-ordered a book and then finding it in your kindle? I’m pretty sure the answer is ‘no’!
Unless, of course, you don’t make that discovery until fairly late in the day … and then you’re one of those people who can’t put down a book to save your life … and suddenly it’s 2 a.m., you have to get up for work at 5:30 a.m., and you have only 5 more chapters to go.
Normal people might put the book down and go to bed, but that is not how I roll. And unfortunately, this is a bit of a habit for me, which is why it’s going to become a somewhat regular post around here.
Which brings me to ‘Hunted,’ book 3 in The Grey Gates series (I think there’s at least one more planned). I’ve read and enjoyed everything else Nelson has written, and this book was no exception. I do think this book was stronger than book 2 in the series, so I enjoyed it a bit more.
Things I like about this book:
The world: it’s a nice mix of modern and magic, but set in a world that isn’t ours.
The characters: I’m a sucker for strong female protagonists, and Nelson delivers. Max is building a new life for herself while getting sideswiped by pieces of her past.
The relationships: Yes, there’s a romance angle, but it’s really minor to the larger plot (or at least has been so far). I enjoy a spicy book just as much as the next gal, but it’s also nice to read stories that don’t focus on the spice as the point of the book. ‘Hunted’ is just as focused on Max’s budding friendships as it is on the romantic relationship.
Overall, I’m not disappointed to have stayed up a bit too late reading this one!
