Publishing The Seer’s Story was cathartic for me: it was so nice, after years of working on Harbinger, to have something real out in the world. It was also really nice to concretely finish a story.
So I gave myself a side quest: The Sorcerers’ Bargain. This is another short story in the Harbinger world, focusing on some of the villains you encounter in Harbinger, as well as some of the heroes.
I have two goals with The Sorcerers’ Bargain.
1) I want to speed up my writing and editing process. My goal is to have The Sorcerers’ Bargain live in the world on July 10th. That gives me roughly three months from start to finish.
2) To get better about concisely world building. Words are at a premium in short stories, and while I’m only publishing in a digital format (so no extra costs if I go too long), the revision process is so much longer for me when the story itself is longer. So fitting in all the history that makes my world make sense is tricky. I think I could have done better at it in The Seer’s Story, so this is my chance to try!
3) I lied. I have three goals with The Sorcerers’ Bargain. But this one is easy(ish). I REALLY want to get that apostrophe in right place the FIRSST time!!
You can keep up with my first-draft progress over on Wattpad (@SarahZCreates). My goal is to get a new chapter up every week, and I’ll be posting here and on my Facebook page each time a section goes live. I’d love for you to check it out and share your thoughts (but be warned: my first drafts are usually pretty terrible!).
